Ghost bike placed for Sarasota Ballet dancer Pedro Pupa

As reported on June 5th in the Bradenton Herald:

A 20-year-old dancer with the Sarasota Ballet has died after a bicycling accident Wednesday, according to Sarasota police.¬† About 2 p.m. Wednesday, in the 5400 block of Bay Shore Road, Pedro Pupa of Brazil was riding his bicycle when a delivery truck pulled in front of him as he was approaching the road leading to the Ringling Museum. The driver of the truck failed to see Pupa or the bicycle,” police said in a news release.

A Ghost Bike has been placed in Pedro’s honor.

Ghost Bikes are small and somber memorials for bicyclists who are killed or hit on the street. A bicycle is painted all white and locked to a street sign near the crash site, accompanied by a small plaque. They serve as reminders of the tragedy that took place on an otherwise anonymous street corner, and as quiet statements in support of cyclists’ right to safe travel.

Special thanks to Ryder Bikes for donating the bike, and to club member Richard Traugott for getting the bike ready and painting it.

RIP Pedro Pupa
